DON MENDO

Don Mendo

Drawing inspiration from literature for a product from the land. La Venganza de Don Mendo is a play by Pedro Muñoz Seca that was written in 1918. So great was its success that today it is the fourth most widely staged play of all times in Spain, after Don Juan Tenorio, Fuenteovejuna and La Vida es Sueño. The play is part of a genre created by the author, known as astracán, which is essentially a type of farce – a comedy whose only intention is to make people laugh at all costs.

The play is divided into four acts, which are filled with plays on words and slapstick; the elements of the history play are parodied through the use of absurdity.

These four acts form the thread with which we present our collection of Don Mendo wines, and we tell the story of this character through their labels.
