The terroirs

Soil, climate and altitude – between 400 and 800 m- come together to turn this land into an excellent place for the wine-making activity. The different microclimates in this area influence in the ripening process of wine grapes, providing a wide range of features to our wines.

Placed between the rivers Huerva and Jalón, most of our vines are raised in a 3,500 hectares area.

Monte Alcañiz

As an effect of the sun and temperature contrasts, vines growing in this terroir possess very particular features.
In this area, also known as Dehesa de la Marquesa, winemakers obtain grapes that, thanks to a careful preparation, results in high-expression and quality wines.

Monte Ducay

This is one of the most characteristic terroirs in Cariñena. Its extremely stony and depth soil creates a rocks mantle in which a variety of vines grow in extreme conditions.

Thickest stones help to keep soil humidity for a long time, while outer stones irradiate light and heat to the lowest part of bunches, what improves ripening conditions.

In this particular landscape, smaller, more concentrated, more powerful and aromatic grapes are raised, resulting in highly expressive wines.

Encinacorba

At an altitude of 800m and below the Algairén Sierra, soil in this terroir is formed by slates and quartzites.

Grapes here are used to make Muscat of Alexandria, a sweet wine especially fine and concentrated. A characteristic of grapes growing in this terroir is their long ripening process, encouraged by the noble rot, caused by a fungus that slowly dehydrates Muscat berries producing a highly concentrated natural grape-juice able to have up to 20 degrees of alcohol.

The strong contrast of temperatures, with frosts and humidity early in the morning and dry and hot air later during the day- caused by the Cierzo wind, slope orientation and slates irradiation- foster this kind of ripening.
